- Most sewing machines, all sergers, and all other tools don’t require certification to use.
- The computerized embroidery machine (Husqvarna) doesn’t require certification. It operates similarly to a normal sewing machine, but has extra steps to set up materials and digitize designs.
- The industrial sewing machine (Juki LU-562) doesn’t require certification. Note that it’s a powerful machine and can be dangerous. Confident users can self teach or ask for help.
The rules in All areas apply.
General rules
- Always use the correct bobbin for a given machine. If you unsure, consult the signage on the wall or ask @steward (fiber arts) on Discord.
- Only use fabric scissors on fabric or thread. Don’t cut paper or any other materials with them.
- Discard scraps smaller than 1 sq ft.
Safety
- Don’t leave a plugged-in iron unattended.
Before leaving
- Sewing machines: remove and put away the bobbin and the spool.
- Sergers: leave the serger threaded and ready for use.
Remember to clean up any fabric or thread scapes, put away clips, pins, bobbins, etc.
